Antique Large Victorian Mourning Hair Comb, Peineta Mantilla Victorian Mourning Hair Comb, Hand Carved Dyed Steer Horn Over 100 Years Ago, with 3 Cameos on front which I added.

The heading is further embellished with three 1910 3 face forward cameos' center one is largest. The first cameo on the left in pictures is WEARING A TIARA!
I purchased these unused molded glass cameos (30+) from a closed in 1910 Paris Workshop . They are beautiful, rare & great. This is heavy thick glass. To see the others click on "See other items" on top right of this pat of my
The cameos are a Classic example of early 1900s traditional French Pate de verre, the artist mixed crushed glass with enamels or paint to form a paste that was carefully placed in a mold, Displaying belle epoque opulence. . Pate de verre gained renown as an art form by French artists Émile Gallé, Antonin Daum and Réné Lalique. The final result is a piece of sculpture that has a surface with a texture that is similar to that of fine sugar. Extreme amount of unblemished detail to these 3 black cameos with bunches of grapes with leaves, flowers & Tiara in hanging curly tendrils, wearing low flowing gowns. I have seen similar large cameos to this in diamond settings go for thousands of dollars
The comb is sophisticated, with the heading being attached to the prongs by a flexible hinge of metal, which allows it to rotate through 90 or more degrees. Such combs are often called tiara combs because the hinged mount gave them a considerable degree of flexibility. They could therefore be worn either in the back of the dressing, below or within the chignon, or tiara style above the forehead. In this latter position the tines would be concealed beneath the hair, so that the ornamental heading functioned as a mini tiara. It is hand carved dyed Steer Horn made between 1850 & 1880 . It is in good shape. One of a kind Carving; It is more 150 years old. Bottom left in pic flourish has been glued, & some mars on back; nothing that detracts from its beauty!
    This comb is 5 1/2" tall x 4 1/2" wide; decorative part is 1 3/4 inches high x 4 1/4" !
Lots of possibilities for wearing, including a bun or hair piece. The Spanish Dancers worn such a comb high above an elaborate hair do and they were very popular in 1875. ITB
