Description
Straight from a french private museum :shell doll in good condition, circa 1830.
This man stands with his stand : 7 3/4" (20 cm) tall.
The body is in wood, the head in papier maché. The clothes were made with shells glued, a special french work from 'Batz sur Mer' (a little town on the seaside, near Guérande town, West of France, just under Brittany region.
The sand is glued on the wooden base.
Difficult to find these dolls in perfect condition : with age the glue become dry and some fine shells are lost.
This doll is in good used condition : the face is in good condition, the body has some painting loss on the hands, there is some shell loss. But we can say : overall good condition.
This doll was exposed for many years in the french museum of Guérande but all the items of the museum were dispatched at one auction room. You can have it, now, only for you.
A catalog of the sale will be added to the doll.
