Items  under consideration are a set of 2, authentic vintage, hand made, copper, 8 1/4 inch tall,
PORT AND STARBOARD SIDELIGHT OIL LANTERNS
. Handmade in Hong Kong by Tung Woo.
Design:
Lanterns are authentic and fully functional with wicks and oil reservoirs located within.
Completely hand formed of solid copper sheeting.
Lanterns are supported by four copper feet (photo# 9).
Solid Fresnel red and green lens are installed to reflect the light.
There is a secured mirrored oval reflector situated internally, behind the wick, to enhance displayed light. An
exhaust
chimney with hinged lid is mounted on top containing a swivel handle (photo# 1).
Ventilation holes are situated on the bottom (photo# 9).
Access to the interior of lantern, to add oil or replace the wick, is accomplished by removing the securing screw and lifting the lid and chimney (photo# 8).
Lovely aged patina.
Usage:
Port and Starboard Lanterns are used by ships/boats to provide nocturnal visual indications to other water navigators of the port and starboard sides as an aid in
discerning
physical location and safe passage.
